About the Course

The Additive Manufacturing (AM) Safety eLearning course provides knowledge on the general elements needed when setting up a facility for AM and the safety issues to be considered during the life of the AM processes. This course covers different regulatory standards and codes applicable to AM and guidance on how these standards apply to your facility. The course also identifies the most relevant standards and how they are specifically applied to preserving the safety and wellbeing of employees using additive manufacturing technologies. Learn where to implement many of the safety elements and best practices that need to be considered when; 1) establishing your AM facility, 2) handling AM materials, 3) performing post-processing, and 4) responding in an emergency situation.

The course takes approximately 6 hours to complete and includes instructional video lecture content, interactive knowledge checks, and an exam.

Learning Outcomes

After completing this course, the attendees will be able to:

  • Name and describe standards and codes applicable to AM processes
  • Recognize and document hazards presented by the AM materials, equipment, and facility
  • Implement risk mitigation steps
  • Identify many of the facility and equipment design requirements that enhance safety
  • Locate needed safety controls (engineering, administrative, Personal Protective Equipment) during the life of an AM process
  • Describe how to handle and store waste materials generated from the AM process
  • Identify ways to implement an emergency response and security program

This training course will be most valuable to users of additive manufacturing (AM) equipment, AM Engineers and Managers, and Facility or Safety Mangers whose responsibilities ensure the safe operations and environment for their organization.
