    This extensive three-day covers basic principles, techniques, and equipment for commonly-used mechanical and analytical tests on polymeric materials. You'll learn about mechanical properties, chemical analysis, flammability, combustibility, instrumental analysis, thermal aging, and much more.

    Course Description

    Registration is anytime between 7:30 and 8:00 AM on the first day of class. Class begins at 8:00 AM on all three days and ends at approximately 4:30 PM on days one and two. Working through lunch, class ends at approximately 2:00 PM on day three.

    About the Instructors

    Charles G. Smith, a consultant, retired after 28 years in the analytical sciences laboratory of The Dow Chemical Co. There he developed methods, and applied chromatographic and spectroscopic techniques to the analysis of polymeric systems, including the application of pyrolysis techniques for the identification and characterization of polymers. He has published over 15 technical papers and is an active member of ASTM. Smith received a B.S degree from Allegheny College and an M.S. in analytical chemistry from the Univ. of Michigan.

    Bob Lambert, a consultant, retired from Eastman Chemical Company after 35 years service. In addition to extensive experience in physical testing and color assessment, he has been involved in the development, manufacturing, quality assurance, and technical service aspects of the plastics industry throughout his career. He has actively participated in ASTM and SPE for many years and prior to retirement was the chairman of ASTM D20.40 Subcommittee on Optical Properties. He is a graduate of North Carolina State University.
