ASTM International presented its top annual award – the Award of Merit – to Raj Shah for his contributions to its petroleum products, liquid fuels, and lubricants committee (D02).
The prestigious award, which includes the accompanying title of fellow, is ASTM’s highest recognition for distinguished service and outstanding participation in ASTM International committee activities. Shah was recognized for his wide-ranging support of technical experts overseeing petroleum standards and test methods, his editing of two editions of ASTM's Fuel and Lubricants handbook as well as over 25 years of promoting implementation of ASTM’s standards.
An ASTM International member since 1995, Shah has previously been honored by the committee with the Award of Appreciation (2004), the Award of Excellence (2011, 2012, 2014), and the Eagle Award (2014).
Shah’s career concentration is chemical engineering, and he has applied his expertise to support various D02 standards on rust, oxidation, and corrosion. He also served as the vice chair for the grease subcommittee for over a decade.
He currently is the director at Koehler Instrument Company, NY and volunteers as an adjunct professor for the State University of New York, Stony Brook. He received his doctoral degree in chemical engineering from the Pennsylvania State University and currently also serves on several non-profit advisory boards.
