ASTM International presented its top annual award – the Award of Merit – to Bob Kluttz for his contributions to its road and paving materials committee (D04).
The prestigious award, which includes the accompanying title of fellow, is ASTM’s highest recognition for distinguished service and outstanding participation in ASTM International committee activities. Kluttz was recognized for his member mentorship, consensus-building, his work in asphalt standard harmonization, and bringing the federally developed multiple stress creep and recovery (MSCR) test method and specification into ASTM.
An ASTM International member since 1995, Kluttz has been previously received committee D08’s Award of Appreciation (2009) and D04’s Distinguished Service Award (2019).
Kluttz’s career concentration is polymer modification of asphalt for paving and roofing applications, and he started his own consultancy in 2025, Asphalt Technology Consultant LLC. He earned his doctoral degree in physical organic chemistry from Columbia University
