ASTM International Honors Ervin Dukatz with Top Annual Award
He was recognized for his keen knowledge of statistical processes and data analysis, his valuable work involving interlaboratory studies for asphalt materials, and his guidance of new members and professionals within committee D04.

ASTM International presented its top annual award – the 2024 Award of Merit – to Ervin Dukatz for his contributions to its road and paving materials committee (D04).
Since 2020, Dukatz has served as president and owner of Flyereld Consulting, LLC, a consulting firm he started after retiring from Mathy Construction Co.
An ASTM International member since 1983, Dukatz has extensive experience as a materials engineer, working in product development, testing, and quality control for soils, aggregate, asphalt, and Portland cement. He was recognized for his keen knowledge of statistical processes and data analysis, his valuable work involving interlaboratory studies for asphalt materials, and his guidance of new members and professionals within committee D04.
The prestigious award, which includes the accompanying title of fellow, is ASTM’s highest recognition for distinguished service and outstanding participation in ASTM International committee activities. Dukatz has previously been honored by the committee with the Award of Appreciation (2012) and the Prevost Hubbard Award (2022).
Beyond ASTM, Dukatz is also a member of various professional organizations such as the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), the Association of Asphalt Paving Technologies (AAPT), and more. He earned his bachelor of science (1974) from Valparaiso University and his master of science (1978) and doctorate (1984) from Penn State University, all in the field of civil engineering.
