ASTM International’s packaging committee (D10) has presented its Alfred H. McKinlay Award to Jan Gates.
This award is bestowed for the sustained and productive participation and leadership in committee D10. An ASTM member since 1981, Gates has extensive experience in the packaging world and currently holds almost 45 years of membership in the Institute of Packaging Professionals (IoPP, when including the name changes over the years).
“Al McKinlay was a great man and a leader in his field,” says Gates. “I am honored by the award from the committee.”
Gates is semi-retired, with occasional work at her company, PackWise Consulting, serving as an advisor packaging engineer, and as CCO/principal consultant at The Packaging Co-op. Within the packaging field, her concentration is on medical devices and pharmaceuticals, with some work in foods and detergents.
In addition to ASTM and the IoPP, Gates is also a member of ISO, the National Small Business Association (NSBA), and the Association of Women in Science (AWIS). She received her Master of Science degree in Packaging from Michigan State University (1982).
