ASTM International presented its top annual award – the 2024 Award of Merit – to Marc Scibetta for his contributions to ASTM’s fatigue and fracture committee (E08).
Since 2009, Scibetta has served as deputy institute director, nuclear energy technology for SCK CEN, the Belgian Nuclear Research Centre. An ASTM International member since 2000, Scibetta’s career focus has been researching fracture toughness of metallic materials, covering everything from physical properties to test techniques.
The prestigious award, which includes the accompanying title of fellow, is ASTM’s highest recognition for distinguished service and outstanding participation in ASTM International committee activities. Scibetta was recognized for his exceptionally committed and detailed work on maintaining high-quality standards in areas like crack arrest testing, ductile and brittle fracture toughness testing, and more.
Scibetta earned his Doctor in Applied Sciences degree in fracture mechanics from the University of Liège in 1999.
