ASTM International Committee E20 on Temperature Measurement has presented the Award of Merit to Thomas J. Wiandt, director of metrology in the Temperature Division of Fluke Calibration in American Fork, Utah. The ASTM Award of Merit and honorary title of fellow is the highest organizational recognition for individual contributions to ASTM standards activities.
Wiandt was recognized by Committee E20 for his effective leadership and outstanding service to the committee, especially in matters of statistical data management. A member of ASTM International since 1997, Wiandt works on several E20 subcommittees, and serves as chairman of E20.07 on Fundamentals in Thermometry and as secretary of E20.09 on Digital Contact Thermometers. He received the Robert D. Thompson Award from E20 in 2005. Wiandt is also a member of Committee E11 on Quality and Statistics.
Prior to joining the staff at Fluke Calibration in 1999, Wiandt was a calibration manager at Hart Scientific, now a part of Fluke Calibration. He also spent time as a metrology engineer at Southern California Edison and was a metrologist at the Northrop Grumman Corp. He specializes in temperature metrology, DC/low frequency metrology and statistics.
Outside ASTM International, Wiandt is a member of NCSL International and the American Physical Society. He earned a bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies from Ellis University in Chicago, Ill., in 1999.
