ASTM International’s consumer products committee (F15) has approved a new standard for the safety of dog harnesses used in motor vehicles. The standard (F3725) was developed by the pet products subcommittee (F15.05) of F15.
“Just as car seats protect kids, the new standard ensures that dog harnesses protect pets in crashes,” says ASTM pet product subcommittee chairman Brian Grochal, director of safety and quality, BARK, Inc. “It sets the first benchmark for restraint safety, prevents ejection, and protects both dogs and passengers from crash injuries.”
Grochal notes that F3725 will provide value to pet product manufacturers, regulators, crash test laboratories, veterinarians, and consumers seeking safe travel products for dogs and paves the way for future pet product standards.
