Taco van der Maten, product manager, X-ray fluorescence, at PANalytical in Almelo, the Netherlands, has been elected chairman of ASTM International Committee F40 on Declarable Substances in Materials. Committee F40 Is comprised of more than 140 international technical experts who develop standards for the evaluation of materials/products relative to RoHS, REACH and similar requirements.
A member of ASTM International since 2006, van der Maten is also a member of Committee D20 on Plastics. Within Committee F40, he leads the task group responsible for the update of ASTM F2617, Standard Test Method for Identification and Quantification of Chromium, Bromine, Cadmium, Mercury, and Lead in Polymeric Material Using Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectrometry.
Van der Maten began his career at Heineken in Zoeterwoude, the Netherlands, in 1985. He then worked as research chemist, service delivery manager and businesses development manager at Royal DSM N.V. in Sittard-Geleen before joining in PANalytical in 2006. As product manager, he is responsible for PANalytical’s global polymer, oils, fuels and petrochemicals markets.
