Papers are invited for ASTM International’s 12th Symposium on Performance of Protective Clothing and Equipment, to be held Feb. 3-4, 2027, in New Orleans, LA, USA. The event is sponsored by ASTM International’s personal protective clothing and equipment committee (F23) and will be held in conjunction with the committee’s standards development meetings.
The symposium will cover the current state and future of the personal protective clothing and equipment (PPE) industry. Specific objectives include showcasing current industry research and advances, defining and discussing challenges, promoting information sharing across stakeholders, and assessing the need for new and/or revised standards.
PPE includes clothing and equipment intended for protection from physical, ballistic, chemical, biological, radiological, flame and thermal hazards, respiratory hazards.
Topics for the symposium include:
• Collaboration between academic research, equipment manufacturers, and government entities to bring improved PPE to the market that addresses evolving needs
• New/emerging technologies in PPE
• New/emerging laboratory techniques for evaluating PPE
• Correlating laboratory test methods with actual field exposures to PPE
• Practical application of ASTM Standards in evaluating PPE
• Identifying shortcomings (opportunities for improvement) in existing ASTM Standards for evaluation of PPE
To participate in the symposium, authors must submit a 250 to 300-word preliminary abstract using the online Abstract Submission Portal no later than Aug. 7, 2026.
