ASTM International presented its A. Ivan Johnson Award to James Olsta for his contributions to ASTM’s soil and rock committee (D18).
Olsta was recognized for outstanding and significant contributions to committee D18. An ASTM International member since 1988, Olsta had been previously honored with the D35 Standards Development Award (2002), the COP GTJ Outstanding Article award (2008), the Richard S. Ladd Standards Development Award (2011, 2018), and the Award of Merit (2020).
Olsta’s career focus is wastewater treatment, waste containment, and remediation. He currently runs his own consultancy, Olsta Consulting LLC, founding it in 2015 after previously working as an environmental product manager at Huesker, Inc.
Olsta holds a bachelor of science in civil engineering and a master of science in environmental engineering, both from University of Illinois, as well as a master of business administration from Northwestern University. He also holds two international patents for environmental products.
