ASTM International Committee A05 on Metallic-Coated Iron and Steel Products has presented the Award of Merit to Herbert W. Koch, quality manager at Harris Steel Co., Cicero, Ill. The ASTM Award of Merit and honorary title of fellow is the highest organizational recognition for individual contributions to ASTM standards activities.
A member of ASTM International since 1985, Koch is a past chairman of Committee A05 and currently serves as recording secretary. He was honored with the Kenneth J. Boedecker Jr. Distinguished Service Award from the committee in 2002. In addition to A05, Koch works on Committees A01 on Steel, Stainless Steel and Related Alloys, B02 on Nonferrous Metals and Alloys, E28 on Mechanical Testing and F40 on Declarable Substances in Materials.
A graduate of Eastern Illinois University, Charleston, Ill., where he earned a bachelor’s degree in business, Koch has been with Harris Steel since 1989. Prior to that, he was quality manager at Basic Steel, Riverdale, Ill.
