ASTM International presented its Katharine E. Morgan Women in Leadership Award to Helene Hardy Pierce for her contributions to ASTM’s roofing and waterproofing committee (D08) and organizational governance.
The award honors Katharine Morgan, ASTM International’s first woman president, and recognizes female leaders of ASTM committees who have made significant contributions to the development of standards. Hardy Pierce joined committee D08 in 1984, during a time when it had very few female members. She readily took on roles of greater impact and responsibility, helping to usher in a new era of participation.
Hardy Pierce’s career spans over 40 years in the roofing industry and she has been active in many of the industry’s organizations. She received the ASTM Award of Merit (1998), two Awards of Appreciation (2005, 2017) and the William C. Cullen Award from committee D08. From 1999-2002, she served on the Board of Directors for ASTM and then on the Executive Board as chair of the finance and audit committee in 2003.
Hardy Pierce most recently served as vice president of building science, regulatory, and industry support from 2000-2022 at GAF. In addition to ASTM, she is a Fellow of the International Institute of Building Envelope Consultants (IIBEC) and a member of the National Roofing Contractors Association (NRCA).
