Meeting to Establish Task Group to Be Held August 10

A meeting will be held on Aug. 10, 2011, to establish a task group within ASTM Committee E54 on Homeland Security Applications to complete the drafting of two performance standards for chemical vapor detectors in support of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Science and Technology Directorate.

The work items for the two proposed new standards are ASTM WK33681, Specification for Standard for Handheld Chemical Vapor Point Detectors (HCVPD), and ASTM WK33684, Specification for Standard for Stationary Monitoring Chemical Vapor Point Detector. The proposed standards are being developed by Subcommittee E54.01 on CBRNE Sensors and Detectors.

The meeting will be held at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), in Gaithersburg, Md., however, there will be a conference bridge set up for those who cannot physically attend. The purpose of the meeting is to explain the scope of these proposed standards, and to identify potential members of the task group(s).

The NIST Campus is a closed, Federal installation, so advance registration is required for entrance to the campus for the meeting. Those wishing to participate, either in person or by teleconference, should register by Aug. 1.
