Work Item: ASTM WK33684 - New Specification for Standard for Stationary Monitoring Chemical Vapor Point Detector

Developed by Subcommittee: E54.01 | Committee E54 Home | Contact Staff Manager

1. Scope

This specification will define stationary monitoring chemical point detectors capable of detecting chemical warfare agents (CWAs) and toxic industrial chemicals (TICs) that pose a risk to human health. This performance specification provides the minimum requirements for a stationary monitor and also requires manufacturers to identify the capabilities of their detectors with respect to the requirements identified within the standard. The specification defines the physical properties, performance requirements, workmanship, product marking, and packaging. The performance requirements include sensitivity, selectivity, reliability, human factors, and environmental requirements. Currently there is a lack of national standards for chemical detector equipment that meet the needs of the public safety community, such as emergency first responders, EMS, HazMat teams, etc. This standard will develop minimum performance requirements to meet the needs of these users.
