Charles Sidebottom, director of corporate standards at Medtronic Inc., Minneapolis, Minn., has received the Patrick G. Laing Award from ASTM International Committee F04 on Medical and Surgical Materials and Devices.
ASTM Committee F04 presents the Patrick G. Laing Award annually to an individual who has made particularly outstanding contributions to the work of the committee in developing standards for medical and surgical materials and devices. It is the highest level of recognition given by the committee.
Sidebottom, who has been with Medtronic for close to 30 years, was CRDM standards manager before assuming his current role in 2000. An expert in the development of standards for the medical device industry, he has made presentations at many international conferences and symposia on medical devices/equipment.
In addition to ASTM International, Sidebottom is a member of the Standards Engineering Society, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation. He holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Iowa State University, and a master’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Missouri.
