ASTM International’s certified reference materials are now accredited according to ISO 17034, demonstrating the capability and quality of the newly released scope of accreditation.
ISO 17034 is the international standard of general requirements for the competence of reference material producers. Accreditation under this standard recognizes that ASTM International meets the requirements of ISO 17034 and demonstrates the technical competency to produce high-quality, precise, and accurate reference materials.
Reference materials are necessary for instrument and method calibration, verification, validation, and establishing traceability of results. ASTM now offers both reference materials and certified reference materials with highly accurate reference values and low uncertainty estimates to help labs meet regulatory and accreditation requirements.
“ASTM International receiving ISO 17034 accreditation as a reference material producer was no easy feat,” says Jeremy Bond, director of program management for laboratory services at ASTM International. “It was a long-term strategic effort fully supported by our senior leadership. We aim to be a comprehensive solution for a laboratory’s QA/QC needs, and this accreditation is an evolutionary step in our portfolio supporting that goal.”
Bond further notes that the accreditation provides value for ASTM’s customers as a sign they can rely on its reference materials and certified reference materials to support their quality assurance programs.
