ASTM International Committee E04 on Metallography has presented the L.L. Wyman Award to Gabriel Lucas, metallography laboratory team leader at Scot Forge Co. in Spring Grove Illinois.

The committee recognized Lucas’ significant contributions to the standardization of metallography, particularly in the development of ASTM E2567, Standard Test Method for Determining Nodularity and Nodule Count in Ductile Iron Using Image Analysis. Lucas serves as E04 first vice chairman and chairs Subcommittee E04.14 on Quantitative Metallography. A member of ASTM since 2005, he also works on Committee B07 on Light Metals and Alloys.

Lucas has more than 30 years of experience in metallography, specializing in metallographic specimen preparation and etching techniques for a wide variety of metals and alloys. He joined Scot Forge in 2010 as a metallographer and received his current title in 2012. Prior to that he was a laboratory team lead and education department manager at Buehler Ltd., Lake Bluff, Illinois, and a senior metallographic technician at Concurrent Technologies Corp., Johnstown, Pennsylvania, where he was responsible for developing analysis methods for the U.S. Navy’s National Center for Excellence in Metalworking Technology (NCEMT).
