ASTM International Committee D19 on Water has recognized Ronald Ferrari, hydraulic engineer at the Bureau of Reclamation, Denver Federal Center, in Denver, Colo., with the Max Hecht Award for his outstanding service and contributions to ASTM water standards.

ASTM International Committee D19 oversees more then 350 quality consensus standards for water in all of its varied forms and uses. A member of ASTM International since 1992, Ferrari serves as chairman of Subcommittee D19.07 on Sediments, Geomorphology and Open-Channel Flow. He also received an Outstanding Service Award from the committee in 2013.

Ferrari joined the Bureau of Reclamation in 1978, after graduating from California State University, Sacramento, with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering. He has conducted sediment investigations on more than 100 reservoirs in the U.S. for the Bureau of Reclamation and other federal agencies and water districts, including Lake Powell behind Glen Canyon Dam and Lake Mead behind the Hoover Dam. In his current role, Ferrari works with the Sedimentation and River Hydraulics Group, which conducts sedimentation and river hydraulic studies that provide information for water resource management, including river restoration and the design, operation and maintenance of river and reservoir facilities. He serves as Reclamation's technical expert and staff specialist in the area of reservoir sedimentation accumulation.

Outside ASTM International, Ferrari is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers.
