Standards organization will attend international exhibition and forum
ASTM International is a sponsor of the Building Test Expo, to be held June 17-19, 2014, in Brussels, Belgium. The Expo is a free international exhibition and forum on the effective testing and certification of construction products to promote increased innovation, quality, safety and sustainability.
The Expo will take place at Square-Brussels Meeting Centre located in heart of Brussels. ASTM International has a large presence in Europe, with an office location in Brussels and members and customers in every member country.
Building Standards
More than 2,000 ASTM International standard test methods, specifications and practices support the safe and economic construction and maintenance of buildings. The recently organized ASTM Built Environment Advisory Committee illustrates how the standards organization is responding to changing needs in the building industry. Numerous ASTM committees, including A01 on Steel, Stainless Steel and Related Alloys, C01 on Cement, C09 on Concrete and Concrete Aggregates, D07 on Wood, D08 on Roofing and Waterproofing, E06 on Performance of Buildings and many more have contributed hundreds of standards for building components used in the marketplace. ASTM encourages all interested stakeholders from the public and private sectors to join in the collaborative effort to develop technical standards for the building industry. Sustainable Construction
As an increased focus on sustainable construction has emerged, ASTM International has responded with more than 200 standards that contribute to all areas of the sustainable built environment and help guide the design and construction of “green” building projects all over the world. These standards are included in ASTM Standards for Sustainability in Building, an online compilation of 202 ASTM International standards that address sustainability or aspects of sustainability relative to buildings and construction. ASTM is also one of the sponsors of the International Green Construction Code (IgCC) developed by the International Code Council.
Building Codes
ASTM Standards in Building Codes features all of the ASTM building construction standards that aid in the design of buildings that meet international code requirements. This popular compilation provides access to the most up-to-date versions of ASTM standards and is available as an online subscription and on DVD.
Technical Foundations
ASTM International also facilitates the generation and dissemination of technical information through various specialized publications as well as continuing technical education and training programs for industry and government. Construction product manufacturers, testing laboratories, certification bodies and others can benefit from standards related offerings such as Proficiency Testing, Interlaboratory Crosscheck and Certification. ASTM’s recent collaborations with the Single Ply Roofing Industry and Adhesive and Sealant Council are examples of the continued growth of ASTM programs for Environmental Product Declarations and Product Category Rules.
