ASTM International Committee F17 on Plastic Piping Systems has presented the Award of Merit to Peter J. Cook, senior technical services specialist, IPEX Inc. in Verdun, Quebec. The Award of Merit and its accompanying title of fellow is ASTM’s highest organizational recognition for individual contributions to standards activities.
Cook was honored for his outstanding years of service and dedication to the development of international standards that have enhanced the durability and safety of plastics in piping systems. He has been a leader in guiding the committee’s growth and has overseen the development and revision of several key standards through his experience with the manufacture of pipe and fittings.
A member of ASTM International for 35 years, Cook works on multiple F17 subcommittees and chairs F17.11 on Composites. He is also a member of Committees D20 on Plastics and F36 on Technology and Underground Utilities. Cook was honored with the F17 Frank W. Reinhart and Henry Butch Kuhlmann Award in 2005.
Cook joined IPEX Inc. (previously known as Scepter/Canron Inc.) in 1974 as a technical services manager and assumed his current role in 2012. He supports the IPEX Technical Services Department, which is responsible for standards writing, third-party certifications and quality control policy.
Outside ASTM International, Cook is a member of the Canadian Standards Association (CSA), NSF International and the Hydrostatic Stress Board of the Plastics Pipe Institute (PPI). CSA presented its own Award of Merit to Cook in 1995. He holds a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Loyola College (now Concordia University) in Montreal, Quebec.
