G. Robert Goss, Ph.D., vice president, research and new product development, at Oil-Dri Corp. in Vernon Hills, Illinois, has received the Award of Merit from ASTM International Committee E35 on Pesticides, Antimicrobials and Alternative Control Agents. The Award of Merit is ASTM’s highest organizational recognition for individual contributions to standards activities and includes the accompanying title of ASTM fellow.

A member of ASTM since 1985, Goss was honored for his outstanding committee leadership and dedication to the development of standards for pesticide formulations and delivery systems. He has held several E35 officer roles, serving as committee chairman from 2008 to 2013, and currently acting as the committee’s membership secretary. Goss also has been active in E35 symposia activities, serving as co-editor of four resulting ASTM special technical publications.

Goss has held several roles with increasing responsibility since joining Oil-Dri Corp. in 1984, assuming his current title in 2005. He specializes in clay, granules and particulates at the clay mining and manufacturing company. A graduate of Western Illinois University, where he received a bachelor’s degree in biology and a master’s in chemistry, Goss earned his doctorate in chemistry from Loyola University of Chicago.

Outside ASTM, Goss is a member of the American Chemical Society, the Clay Minerals Society and the Society for Mining, Metallurgy and Exploration.
