The ASTM International Additive Manufacturing Center of Excellence is hosting its second workshop on Sept. 16 at the Technical Centre for Mechanical Industry (CETIM) in Senlis, France.

The workshop offers participants a unique and comprehensive snapshot of the entire additive manufacturing (AM) value chain, according to Dr. Mohsen Seifi, ASTM International’s director of global additive manufacturing programs.

Topics addressed throughout the day include:

  • Powder,
  • Design,
  • Processing,
  • Postprocessing,
  • Non-destructive inspection,
  • Safety,
  • Qualification, and
  • Certification.

The workshop will also focus on gaps in standardization and workforce development for additive manufacturing technologies, highlighting how the newly formed center of excellence uses research to address those gaps, according to Seifi.

“Featuring twelve interactive sessions designed with industry needs in mind, the workshop will illustrate the role and value of standards in achieving accelerated product qualification and certification for additive manufacturing,” he adds. The workshop is open to all professionals in the additive manufacturing community including industry representatives, academics, researchers, government employees, and others.

ASTM International also announced the hire of Alex Liu, Ph.D., who will serve as the organization’s new head of additive manufacturing programs for the Asia-Pacific region. Liu works closely with one of the center’s strategic partners, Singapore’s National Additive Manufacturing Innovation Cluster (NAMIC) to curate regional programs for standards development.

Liu holds a bachelor’s degree in mechatronics and robotics automation and a doctorate in mechanical engineering with a focus on process and materials characterization for metal additive manufacturing.
