ASTM International Committee C09 on Concrete and Concrete Aggregates has presented the Katharine and Bryant Mather Member Contribution Award to Matthew Offenberg, technical services manager at W.R. Grace and Co. in Atlanta, Ga.
The committee cited Offenberg for his outstanding contributions in the development of standards and dissemination of knowledge related to pervious concrete and the enhancement of cement and concrete technology standards. A member of ASTM International since 2007, he currently chairs Subcommittee C09.49 on Pervious Concrete.
A graduate of Purdue University, West Lafayette, Ind., where he received a master’s and bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, Offenberg joined W.R. Grace and Co. in 2007. Prior to that he was a market development manager at Rinker Materials, Orlando, Fla., and special projects and research engineer at United Metro Materials, Phoenix, Ariz. In his current role, he leads the company presence in the pervious concrete market, and manages research and development projects for new technologies.
Outside ASTM International, Offenberg is a member of the American Concrete Institute and the National Ready Mixed Concrete Association, and is a director for the downtown development authority of Holly Springs, Ga. A registered professional engineer in the states of Arizona and Florida, he is well published and has made numerous speeches and presentations on the topic of pervious concrete. Offenberg also runs the blog, www.perviousblog.com.
