Gordon Hunter, principle manager of material science with Smith & Nephew, Memphis, Tennessee, USA, was honored with the H.R. “Russ” Ogden Award from ASTM International’s committee on reactive and refractory metals and alloys (B10). 

Hunter, who joined ASTM in 2009, was honored for his accomplishments in the science and technology of reactive and refractory metals and alloys. The award is named in honor of the committee’s first chairman.

Hunter has previously served as the group manager for materials quality and strategic manufacturing for Smith & Nephew, research project manager for Smith & Nephew, senior research engineer of alloy and process development with General Electric Aircraft Engines, and more. He holds both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in materials engineering, and a doctorate degree in metallurgy from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. 

In addition to ASTM International, Hunter is a member of ASM International, the Mineral, Metals and Materials Society, American Society for Quality, Society for Biomaterials, Society of Manufacturing Engineers, Sigma Xi, and the International Society for Technology in Arthroplasty.
