Jess M. Waller, project scientist, teammate principle at the NASA-JSC White Sands Test Facility in Las Cruces, New Mexico, USA, was honored with the Charles W. Briggs Award from ASTM International’s committee on nondestructive testing (E07).

An ASTM International member since 1998, the committee honored Waller for continuous and outstanding contributions to the work of the committee on nondestructive testing.  

Waller holds a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill, and a Ph.D. in polymer science from the University of Akron. He has served at the NASA-JSC White Sands Test Facility since 1995, having previously served as a guest researcher with NIST, a research assistant at the Becton Dickinson Research Center, and an assistant chemist with the Research Triangle Institute. In addition, Waller served as an adjunct professor at New Mexico State University from 2013 through 2017.  

In addition to ASTM International, Waller is a member of the NASA Engineering and Safety Center NDE Technical Discipline Team, the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, NASA OSMA NDE Program, the American Society for Nondestructive Testing, and more.
