ASTM International Committee A04 on Iron Castings has elected William LeVan, executive vice president of the Cast Iron Soil Pipe Institute (CISPI) in Atlanta, Ga., as its new chairman.  The 140-member committee is responsible for approximately 50 standards published in the Annual Book of ASTM Standards.

LeVan became a member of ASTM International in 1988.  In addition to serving as chair of Committee A04, he leads Subcommittees A04.12 on Pipes and Tubes and A04.94 on Long Range Planning. He also works on Committees C24 on Building Seals and Sealants, E06 on Performance of Buildings, E34 on Occupational Health and Safety and F17 on Plastic Piping Systems.

A graduate of the University of Tennessee, Chattanooga, Tenn., LeVan spent nearly 20 years as regional sales manager at U.S. Pipe and Foundry Co., also in Chattanooga, before accepting his position at the Cast Iron Soil Pipe Institute in 1988. The CISPI is a not for profit organization dedicated to aiding and improving the plumbing industry.

Outside ASTM International, LeVan is a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, the American Society of Association Executives, the International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials, the International Code Council, the American National Standards Institute and the American Society of Sanitary Engineering.
