René D. Wiebe, market development manager of hydrocarbon products at Parker Hannifin Corp., Holly Springs, Miss., has received the ASTM International Award of Merit and accompanying title of fellow from ASTM Committee D15 on Engine Coolants. 

The Award of Merit and its accompanying title of fellow is ASTM’s highest organizational recognition for individual contributions to ASTM standards activities.  Committee D15 honored Wiebe for his outstanding leadership in the committee and his work in the development of test methods and specifications for engine coolants.

A member of ASTM International since 1992, Wiebe is the current chair of Committee D15 and works on several subcommittees.  For his many contributions to the committee, he received the Raymond H. Rudisill Award in 1999 and the Daniel H. Green Award in 2006.   He also serves on Committee D02 on Petroleum Products and Lubricants. 

A graduate of Tabor College, Hillsboro, Kan., where he earned a bachelor’s degree in chemistry, Wiebe began his professional career at BG Products Inc., Wichita, Kan., in 1992, progressing to the position of laboratory manager.  In 1994, he joined the staff at Wynn Oil Co., Azusa, Calif., where he held the positions of coolant specialist, laboratory manager, and fleet and private label business manager.  He assumed his current role at Parker Hannifin in 2007. 

In addition to ASTM International, Wiebe is a member of the Society of Automotive Engineers and the Society of Tribologists and Lubrication Engineers.
