Pierre Hirtt, founder and chief technology officer, HITEC Luxembourg S.A., Luxembourg, has received ASTM’s highest organizational recognition for individual contributions to standards activities, the Award of Merit, from Committee D24 on Carbon Black.
Committee D24 honored Hirtt with the award and its accompanying title of fellow for his work in advancing the technical quality and capability of carbon black through the development of international standards. An ASTM member since 1994, Hirtt is active on multiple D24 subcommittees, serving as chairman of D24.51 on Carbon Black Pellet Properties and as secretary of D24.11 on Carbon Black Structure. He received the D24 Distinguished Service Award in 2003.
HITEC Luxembourg S.A. offers high technology solutions for areas such as satellite ground segment technology; customer-specific and standard equipment for testing and measuring of physical properties; engineering; and software development. Hirtt founded the company, which serves customers in more than 30 countries wordwide, in 1986. Prior to that he was a testing method engineer at Goodyear Technical Center, Colmar-Berg, Luxembourg.
Hirtt holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Fachhochschule des Saarlandes (University of Applied Sciences) in Sarrbrücken, Germany, and a master’s in physics from the Universität des Saarlandes (Saarland University), also in Saarbrücken. He is a member of the Luxembourg Engineering Society in addition to ASTM.
