David L. Sharp, a project engineer and director of quality for GMS Engineers in New York, N.Y., has received a 2006 Award of Merit and accompanying title of fellow from ASTM International. The honor, which recognizes his leadership in ASTM International Committee F16 on Fasteners and his standards development work in the committee, is the highest award given to individuals by the organization.

Sharp lives in New York, N.Y., with his wife Nancy and two children.

A member of ASTM since 1990, Sharp presently serves as secretary of the main F16 committee, secretary of the F16 executive subcommittee, and chairman of F16.95 on Long-Range Planning.  Sharp has been involved in the development and revision of a number of F16 standards, and has led numerous task groups to accomplish this work.

He is also a member of ASTM International Committees A01 on Steel, Stainless Steel and Related Alloys, C09 on Concrete and Concrete Aggregates, E07 on Nondestructive Testing, E11 on Quality and Statistics, E30 on Forensic Sciences, and E36 on Laboratory and Inspection Agency Accreditation.

In addition to ASTM International, Sharp is a member of the American Welding Society, the American Concrete Institute, the Bolting Technology Council, the Research Council on Structural Connections, the Society of Automotive Engineers, The American Society of Mechanical Engineers, and the Structural Engineers Association of New York.

Professionally, Sharp is involved with process evaluation, technical training, inspection, standardization and mentoring. Before joining the staff of GMS Engineers, he gained experience at TurnaSure LLC, Avnet Industrial, and Bechtel Power Corp. Sharp is a 1985 graduate of the Kutztown University of Pennsylvania.
