ASTM International, in support of efforts stemming from the Part 23 Reorganization Aviation Rulemaking Committee (ARC), will host an organizational meeting for the establishment of a new ASTM standards activity on general aviation (GA) airworthiness design standards.

The meeting will be held Sept. 17, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. EST, at the Aircraft Electronics Association headquarters in Lee’s Summit, Mo. This free event will also offer a virtual attendance option.
 
The standards roadmap being proposed to ASTM International is set to address airworthiness and design requirements to accommodate GA aircraft under 19,000 pounds. Relevant stakeholders on the ARC, including global regulators, manufacturers, maintainers, operators and representative associations, have worked diligently in the last year to aggressively strategize and determine aspects of aircraft design that are in need of standardization. The goal of the standardization efforts will be to increase safety and simultaneously reduce the cost of certified aircraft.

ASTM International stands ready to accommodate this new standardization initiative with its neutral forum wherein the private and public sectors have long worked together to develop consensus standards.
