Dr. James Webber, Ph.D., senior scientist, Webber Environmental Health Consulting LLC in Pleasantville, N.Y., has received the Moyer D. Thomas Award from ASTM International Committee D22 on Air Quality.

Webber was honored for his outstanding technical contributions and many years of service to Committee D22, including that of chairman, a role he has held since 2008. He also chairs Subcommittee D22.90, the Technical Advisory Group to the ISO Technical Committee 146 on Air Quality; is a past secretary of D22.07 on Sampling and Analysis of Asbestos; and served a term on the ASTM Committee on Technical Committee Operations (COTCO). The committee has recognized his work with several Awards of Appreciation and the ASTM Award of Merit.

Webber was a research scientist specializing in asbestos and hazardous nanoparticles in the environment at Wadsworth Center in Albany, N.Y., for 33 years. He retired in 2012 and began his consultancy work. A graduate of the Wheaton College, Wheaton, Ill., where he earned a bachelor’s degree in biology, Webber also holds a master’s in zoology from Michigan State University, East Lansing, Mich., and received his doctorate in environmental health and toxicology from the State University of New York at Albany. He is currently an adjunct assistant professor at SUNY Albany.

Webber receivedthe Wadsworth Center Recognition Award from the New York State Department of Health in 2001, the Distinguished Dissertation Award from SUNY in 1999 and the New York State Department of Health’s Commissioner’s Award in 1985.
