Presentations are invited for ASTM International’s Workshop on Artificial Intelligence Applied to Hydrocarbon Analysis and ASTM Test Methods, to be held Dec. 8, 2026, in Orlando, FL. The event is sponsored by ASTM International’s petroleum products, liquid fuels, and lubricants committee (D02) through its gas chromatography methods sub-committee (D02.04.L). It will be held in conjunction with the committee’s standards development meetings.
Artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies are increasingly being applied in analytical laboratories to enhance the efficiency, consistency, and interpretation of test data generated by ASTM methods used in hydrocarbon analysis.
These tools are beginning to support a variety of analytical techniques commonly used in petroleum and petrochemical laboratories, including chromatographic, spectroscopic, and physical property measurement methods.
This workshop will highlight practical applications, emerging tools, and future opportunities for integrating AI into laboratory testing and ASTM standards development. Presentations may include demonstrations, case studies, and discussions of implementation challenges, validation considerations, and potential impacts on existing and future ASTM test methods.
Topics for the workshop may include, but are not limited to:
The event welcomes contributions from analytical laboratories, instrument manufacturers, software developers, and research organizations. Presentations describing practical applications, pilot implementations, or emerging approaches to AI in hydrocarbon testing are encouraged, including experiences that highlight both the opportunities and challenges associated with implementation.
This workshop will be of interest to:
To participate in the workshop, authors must submit a 250 to 300-word preliminary abstract to the Workshop Chairs, Medrado Michael Leal and Frank DiSanzo no later than Jun. 30, 2026.
