ASTM International Committee F25 on Ships and Marine Technology has presented the John Nachtsteim Award to Sujit Ghosh, mechanical engineer at the U.S. Maritime Administration (MARAD) in Washington, D.C. Ghosh was honored for his meritorious contributions to international marine technology standards.
A member of ASTM International and Committee F25 since 2009, Ghosh is chairman of Subcommittee F25.06 on Marine Environmental Protection.
Ghosh specializes in ship modification, operation and maintenance as well as research and development for marine environmental projects. Prior to assuming his current role, he was a marine surveyor for MARAD in Norfolk, Va., and a naval architect at the American Bureau of Shipping, Paramus, N.J.
Outside ASTM International, Ghosh is a member of the American Bureau of Shipping Committee on Engineering and the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers. He has sailed on board ocean-going ships for 12 years and holds a chief engineers license.
A graduate of Thunderbird, the American Graduate School of International Management, where he received a Master of International Management degree, Ghosh also holds a Bachelor of Science in naval architecture from the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor; and a Bachelor of Science in marine engineering from the Marine Engineering and Research Institute in Calcutta, India.
