Richard W. Phillips, senior principal engineer for Goodrich Sensors and Integrated Systems in Eagan, Minn., has received an ASTM International Award of Merit and accompanying title of fellow, the highest organizational honor for individual contributions to standards activities. ASTM International Committee E20 on Temperature Measurement cited Phillips for his exemplary service in developing temperature metrology standards and for promoting their use.

Chair of Subcommittee E20.03 on Resistance Thermometers and an ASTM International member since 1990, Phillips oversees the ongoing refinement of standards in this area. In addition, he is active with Subcommittees E20.04 on Thermocouples and E20.07 on Fundamentals in Thermometry and regularly makes technical presentations during E20 meetings.

After he graduated with a B.S. in mechanical engineering from the University of Minnesota, Phillips joined the staff of Rosemount Aerospace as a design engineer. He held positions as a project engineer and then senior engineer with the firm, which was acquired by Goodrich Corporation. Phillips assumed his current position in 2002. In his career, he has been involved with temperature instrumentation and has developed thermometers and test methods for a wide range of aerospace, industrial and metrology applications.
