Reinhold Strnat, president and technical manager of Magnet-Physics Inc. in Fishers, Ind., has been named chairman of ASTM International Committee A06 on Magnetic Properties. Committee A06 includes close to 50 members who develop standards dealing with magnetic materials and test methods for determining magnetic properties.
Strnat, who joined ASTM in 1992, also chairs Subcommittee A06.01 on Test Methods and A06.92 on Terminology and Definitions. He has served as secretary and vice chairman of the main A06 committee.
After earning a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Dayton, Dayton, Ohio, and a master’s degree in applied physics from the University of California San Diego, La Jolla, Calif., Strnat worked as an electrical engineer at the University of Dayton Research Institute. In 1985, he joined KJS Associates Inc., Indianapolis, Ind., where he held various roles, including president and technical/quality manager. Since 2008, Strnat has been president and technical manager of Magnet-Physics Inc., the North American representation for Magnet-Physik Dr. Steingroever GmbH of Cologne, Germany, a worldwide supplier of magnetizing and magnetic test equipment and services.
Outside ASTM International, Strnat is a senior member of IEEE, and he is a commercial/instrument rated pilot and FAA Certificated Flight Instructor.
