ASTM International’s vacuum cleaner committee (F11) presented its 2025 John N. Balough Distinguished Service Award to Daniel Miller, Director of Operations and Business Development for SGS North America, Inc.

The award recognizes Miller’s distinguished service, high moral integrity and unselfish devotion to the work of the F11 committee on vacuum cleaners over 25 years. This citation also praises Miller’s untiring commitment, valuable leadership and guidance in the development of ASTM standards for the floor care industry.

A member of ASTM International since 2002, Miller has been previously awarded by the committee with the Standards Excellence Award (2006), the Award of Appreciation (2014), and the Award of Merit (2016). In addition to ASTM, he is a member of the Institute of Environmental Sciences and Technology (IEST), the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), and has worked in American National Standards Institute (ANSI) USNC technical advisory groups for IEC and ISO committees.

Miller’s career focus is laboratory performance and safety testing of floor care and filtration products. Prior to his current position, he spent time as the Operations Manager and the Air Lab Manager at SGS IBR Laboratories.
