ASTM International Committee C18 on Dimension Stone has honored Michael D. Lewis, president of Facade Forensics Inc. in Cincinnati, Ohio, with the 2010 Award of Merit and the Daniel W. Kessler Award for his exceptional contributions to the development of standards for the dimension stone industry. The Award of Merit is ASTM's highest recognition for individual contributions to standards activities.

A member of ASTM International since 1989, Lewis has served as both C18 secretary and vice chairman, and he currently chairs Subcommittee C18.06 on Attachment Components and Systems.  In addition to C18, he works on Committees C15 on Manufactured Masonry Units and E06 on Performance of Buildings, and is the author of ASTM Manual 21, Modern Stone Cladding: Design and Installation of Exterior Dimension Stone Systems, which was published in 1995.  In 2008, he received the ASTM International Walter C. Voss Award for his outstanding contributions to knowledge and advances in the field of building technology.

A specialist in building envelope design and rehabilitation, Lewis started his business Facade Forensics in 2002.  He is also an assistant adjunct professor in the School of Architecture and Interior Design at the University of Cincinnati, Cincinnati, Ohio, where he earned a bachelor's degree in architecture in 1984 and his master's in structural engineering in 1992.

Outside ASTM International, Lewis is a member of the American Institute of Architects, the American Society of Civil Engineers, the International Code Council, the Masonry Society and the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
