Matthew Offenberg, southeast regional manager at W.R. Grace & Co., Canton, Georgia, is a recipient of the 2014 ASTM International President’s Leadership Award. 

The President’s Leadership Award recognizes individuals early in their ASTM career who have significantly advanced the Society’s mission through extraordinary accomplishment, example and vision, and is presented to two ASTM members annually. The other 2014 recipient is Oliver Reinhardt, chief technical officer at Flight Design GmbH in Kamenz, Germany.

A member of ASTM International since 2007, Offenberg serves on Committees C01 on Cement and C09 on Concrete and Concrete Aggregates. As chairman of Subcommittee C09.49 on Pervious Concrete, he has worked to advance the global application of ASTM pervious concrete standards, and served as the primary author of ASTM C1747, Test Method for Determining Potential Resistance to Degradation of Pervious Concrete by Impact and Abrasion, an important standard for the industry. Previous committee honors include the C09 Katharine and Bryant Mather Member Contribution Award.

Offenberg joined W.R. Grace & Co. in 2007 as a technical services manager and was promoted to his current role in 2013. Prior to that, he was district technical services manager at Rinker Materials, Bonita Springs, Florida. He holds a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in civil engineering from Purdue University, West Lafayette, Indiana.

Outside ASTM International, Offenberg has received several awards as a member of the American Concrete Institute (ACI), including the Delmar Bloom Distinguished Service Award and the Watson Medal for Most Meritorious Paper. He was named an ACI fellow in 2014.
