Klas Magnus Boivie Honored with Top Annual ASTM International Award

Boivie was recognized for his unrelenting leadership, outstanding contribution, and exceptional productivity in developing additive manufacturing standards.

ASTM International presented its top annual award – the 2025 Award of Merit – to Klas Magnus Boivie for his contributions to ASTM’s additive manufacturing technologies committee (F42). 



The prestigious award, which includes the accompanying title of fellow, is ASTM’s highest recognition for distinguished service and outstanding participation in ASTM International committee activities. Boivie was recognized for his unrelenting leadership, outstanding contribution, and exceptional productivity in developing additive manufacturing standards.

Boivie has been an ASTM International member since 2009 and served on ASTM’s, ASTM’s Board of Directors from 2019-2021. He is a founding member of F42 and had been previously honored by the committee with Additive Manufacturing Connection Point (2018), the Board of Directors Service Award (2021), and the Frank W. Reinhart Award (2022).

Boivie is founder, CEO, and head of research at Additvantage AB, a position he’s held since 2024. His career has involved many aspects of AM technology, from new process development to industrial applications. Since 2007, his focus has been on supporting industrialization of AM technology, leading to his foray into international standards development. Besides ASTM, he is also active in the coordinated activities for AM standardization at ISO's committee TC261, where he serves as Convenor for Work Group 1 on Terminology.

Boivie earned his doctoral degree (2004) in manufacturing technology from the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH).
