Kenneth F. Yarosh, an associate scientist and the European technical manager, Global Construction Industry, for Dow Corning Corp. in Seneffe, Belgium, has been elected to the ASTM International Board of Directors for a three-year term beginning this year.
Yarosh is first vice chairman of ASTM Committee C24 on Building Seals and Sealants and its executive subcommittee; he serves on a number of C24 subcommittees. Yarosh is also a member of three subcommittees within Committee E06 on Performance of Buildings. He participates in many interlaboratory studies and has worked on the development of a number of key standards for the glazing and weatherproofing industry. In addition, he serves as a global liaison between the sealants industry and Committee C24, and he has been a principal author of technical papers for C24 and E06 symposia.
Committee C24 has recognized Yarosh's contributions with Certificates of Appreciation in 1998 and 2000, and with the C24 Sealants Hall of Fame Award in 2001. Yarosh received a 2005 ASTM Award of Merit and accompanying title of fellow honoring his contributions to C24.
In his professional role, a position he has held since 2003, Yarosh manages technical professionals who provide support for silicone sealant products used in such construction applications as structural glazing, insulating glass, and building envelope protection. He also collaborates with appropriate European officials to develop standards for these industrial items.
Following his 1982 graduation from Elmhurst College in Elmhurst, Ill., with a B.S. in chemistry, Yarosh joined the Stepan Co. in Northfield, Ill., as a product development chemist. He worked for the firm until 1985, when he embarked on his career with Dow Corning in Midland, Mich., as a technical service chemist.
Yarosh relocated to Atlanta, Ga., in 1987 to open Dow Corning's Regional Sealants Testing Laboratory and from 1988 to 2003 he was an application engineering and technical service specialist for customers and specifiers. In the latter role, Yarosh worked closely with major building curtainwall and structural glazing contractors on large building projects, both new and remedial, in North America.
Yarosh has previously been a member of the Construction Specifications Institute, the EIFS Industry Members Association, the Glass Association of North America, and the Sealant Waterproofing and Restoration Institute. He has also been a director for both the Exterior Design Institute and the Protective Glazing Council.
