ASTM International Committee E60 on Sustainability has honored Joseph Schwetz, director, technical services at Sika Sarnafil Corp., Canton, Massachusetts, with the Award of Merit and title of fellow.

The Award of Merit is ASTM’s highest organizational recognition for individual contributions to standards activities. Committee E60 noted Schwetz’s exemplary committee leadership and his work on sustainability standardization across multiple ASTM committees.

An ASTM member since 2000, Schwetz serves as E60 membership secretary. He works closely with Committee D08 on Roofing and Waterproofing on standards for vegetative (green) roofs, and chairs the Subcommittee on Nonbituminous Organic Roof Coverings (D08.18). D08 presented him with an Award of Appreciation in 2012 for his contributions. Schwetz also works on the ASTM committees for Gypsum, Thermal Insulation, Fire Standards, Performance of Buildings, and Solar, Geothermal and Alternative Energy.

Schwetz has specialized in development and technical services for roofing systems for more than 35 years. He joined Sika Sarnafil, a single-ply, commercial roofing and waterproofing manufacturer, in 1999, and assumed his current role in 2011. Prior to that he was national manager of technical services at Bondcote Corp., Middlebury, Connecticut.

Outside ASTM, Schwetz is a member of the International Code Council, RCI Inc., the Roof Coatings Manufacturers Association, the Single Ply Roofing Industry, and the Special Interest Group for Dynamic Evaluation of Roofing Systems. He holds a bachelor’s degree in architectural engineering and construction management from the State University of New York at Delhi.
