Jarrod Persun, a graduate student in the Wallace H. Coulter School of Engineering at Clarkson University, Potsdam, N.Y., is the recipient of the 2009 Katharine and Bryant Mather Scholarship from ASTM International. The scholarship, sponsored by ASTM Committee C09 on Concrete and Concrete Aggregates, is presented each year to undergraduate or graduate students who are pursuing degrees specializing in cement or concrete materials technology or concrete construction.
Persun, who earned a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Clarkson University in 2008, began his concrete research in 2006. His past research work has focused on vitreous calcium alumino silicate (VCAS) and self-consolidating concrete (SCC). Two projects he worked on were published in Cement and Concrete Research and the Transportation Research Record. He plans to continue his research while pursuing his master’s in civil engineering.
At Clarkson, Persun has been featured on the dean’s list and received the George A. Gray Endowed Fellowship. He is also a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers.
