ASTM International Committee E57 on 3D Imaging Systems has named Faraz Ravi, director of product management for point clouds at Bentley Systems, Exton, Pa., as its new chairman.

Formed in 2006, Committee E57 develops standards for 3D imaging systems, including laser scanners and optical range cameras. Ravi has been a member of ASTM International since 2011.

A graduate of Herriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, Scotland, where he received a Bachelor of Architecture and a Diploma of Architecture, Ravi was a director at IGLOO Software, London, UK, from 2001-2003. He then co-founded Pointools Ltd., a hardware-neutral provider of point cloud software technology that was based in the United Kingdom, in 2003. In 2011, Pointools was acquired by Bentley Systems, a company that provides comprehensive software solutions to architects, engineers, geospatial professionals, constructors and owner-operators for sustaining infrastructure, and Ravi assumed his current role.
