Eric R. Boes, corporate quality engineer for Delta Faucet Co. in Indianapolis, Ind., will serve a three-year term on the board of directors of ASTM International. An ASTM fellow, Boes became an ASTM member in 1991.
Boes lives in Indianapolis, Ind.
An active participant on a number of ASTM International committees, Boes currently serves as user vice chair of Committee A01 on Steel, Stainless Steel, and Related Alloys and as first vice chair of Committee B05 on Copper and Copper Alloys. He also leads Subcommittees A01.93 on Awards, B05.91 on Editorial and Publications, and B05.94 on Strategic Planning, and participates in the activities of numerous A01 and B05 subcommittees.
In 2003, Committee B05 honored Boes’ contributions to the standardization of copper and copper alloy products with an Award of Merit, the highest ASTM recognition for individual contributions to standards activities. He also received a 2004 Service Award from the ASTM Committee on Standards for his work with that group. In addition, Boes is a member of ASTM Committees B02 on Nonferrous Metals and Alloys, B07 on Light Metals and Alloys, E11 on Quality and Statistics, F17 on Plastic Piping Systems, G01 on Corrosion of Metals, and the Joint ASTM/NACE Committee on Corrosion. In addition to ASTM International, he is a member of the American Foundry Society, the American Welding Society, ASM International, the American Society for Quality and the Standards Engineering Society.
In 1994, Boes received a Certificate of Appreciation from ASTM Committee B05 for his contributions to ASTM B 858, Standard Test Method for Ammonia Vapor Test for Determination of Susceptibility to Stress Corrosion Cracking in Copper Alloys. This standard was developed based on a request from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) on behalf of the U. S. Coast Guard, which was looking for an alternative to the mercurous nitrate test. He was also an important contributor to standard specifications and classifications of copper and copper alloys.
Boes graduated with a B.S. in metallurgical engineering from Michigan Technological University in 1987. He began as a marketing engineer with Olin Brass Corp. in 1987, receiving promotions to metallurgical engineer in 1990 and senior metallurgical engineer in 1996. He joined Delta Faucet Company in 1998 as corporate quality engineer. His career concentration has been primarily in the areas of supplier quality assurance and development, auditing, metallurgical engineering, technical service and standards development. He is an ASQ certified quality engineer, a certified quality auditor, a certified quality improvement associate and a certified quality manager.
