ASTM International Committee B07 on Light Metals and Alloys has honored Brian Cochran, a consultant based in Wabash, Indiana, with the Award of Merit. The prestigious award, which includes the accompanying title of fellow, is ASTM’s highest organizational recognition for individual contributions to standards activities.
A member of ASTM since 1986, Cochran has served many leadership roles in Committee B07 during his tenure, including as committee chairman from 2004 to 2009. He has been a major contributor to the development of internationally recognized ASTM standards for the aluminum industry. Cochran also served on the editorial board of the Journal of ASTM International. He received a B07 Award of Appreciation in 2007 and the Outgoing Chairman Award in 2014.
Cochran has more than 45 years of experience in the non-ferrous casting industry. He spent most of his career at Wabash Alloys (now Real Alloy Specification Inc.) in Wabash, Indiana, where he provided technical services to aluminum manufactures as sales manager and director of technical service. An independent consultant to the aluminum industry since 2006, Cochran works with such large companies as Alcoa, Chrysler and Honda.
In addition to ASTM, Cochran is a member of the American Foundry Society, the American National Standards Institute and the North American Die Casting Association. He holds a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from San Diego State University.
