Carlton G. Slough, Ph.D., senior applications chemist at TA Instruments in New Castle, Del., has received the ASTM International Award of Merit from Committee E37 on Thermal Measurements. The Award of Merit and its accompanying title of fellow is ASTM’s highest organizational recognition for individual contributions to standards activities.
Slough was honored for his outstanding leadership and contributions as recording secretary of Committee E37. In addition to this support, he provided significant technical and literary contributions to the development of E37 standards ASTM E2551, Test Method for Humidity Calibration (or Conformation) of Humidity Generators for Use with Thermogravimetric Analyzers, and ASTM E2716, Test Method for Determining Specific Heat Capacity by Sinusoidal Modulated Temperature Differential Scanning Calorimetry. The committee has recognized Slough, who has been a member of ASTM International since 2005, with two Awards of Appreciation.
A graduate of the University of Texas, Austin, Texas, where he received a bachelor’s degree in physics, Slough earned his Ph.D. in physics from the University of Virginia, Charlottesville, Va. He joined TA Instruments in 1998 as an applications scientist, was promoted to product specialist in 2008 and assumed his current role in 2012.
Outside ASTM International, Slough is a member of the American Physical Society, the North American Thermal Analysis Society and the Thermal Analysis Forum of the Delaware Valley, where he is treasurer and has acted as a program coordinator for the annual Thermal Analysis Forum Symposium for the past three years.
