ASTM International continues its long-time support of Riverbend Environmental Education Center in Gladwyne, Pennsylvania, near the organization’s global headquarters. Riverbend gives students an opportunity to directly experience nature while incorporating current science lessons.
On Nov. 1, a group of about 50 second-grade students from Bridgeport Elementary School visited Riverbend to study animal habitats. The trip was one of several that ASTM International sponsors each year for grade schools in the Upper Merion, Norristown, and Colonial school districts.
Riverbend uses direct environmental contact to improve children’s well-being, education, leadership skills. Staff from Riverbend visit classrooms both before the field trip to prepare students and afterward to follow up on the trip.
Riverbend’s efforts align with ASTM International’s mission, including its members’ activities focused on developing standards that support sustainability and the environment.
