ASTM International Committee A01 on Steel, Stainless Steel and Related Alloys has presented it most prestigious award to Malcolm Blair, a consultant to the Steel Founders’ Society of America (SFSA) who is based in Murrieta, California.

The A01 Founding Committee Award recognized Blair for his high level of committee leadership and exemplary contributions. A member of ASTM since 1989, he chairs Subcommittee A01.95, the USA Committee of International Standardization of Steel, and serves on multiple A01 subcommittees. Blair was named an ASTM fellow in 2008, when he received the highest organizational honor for individual contributions to standards activities, the Award of Merit. He also works on Committees E07 on Nondestructive Testing and G01 on Corrosion of Metals in addition to A01.

A specialist in metal production, research and quality control, Blair held various management and technical director positions at IMI Titanium, Duport Steel Works, APV Paramount, Duraloy Technologies Inc. and Delray Steel Casting before joining the Steel Founders’ Society of America as vice president – technology in 1989. He took on his consultant role after retiring in 2013.

Outside ASTM, Blair is a member of the American Foundry Society, the American Welding Society, the Association for Iron and Steel Technology, the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining, the International Organization for Standardization and NACE International. He holds a bachelor’s degree in metallurgy from the University of Manchester in Manchester, England.
